How a motorcycle transmission works

By replacing the traditional gear set with belt drive, the diameters of the driving and driven pulleys are adjusted dynamically via the centrifugal force of the polycentric beads, enabling stepless speed variation. During acceleration, the outward expansion of the polycentric beads pushes the belt to reduce the transmission ratio; when decelerating, the spring returns to its original position, restoring the transmission ratio.

The motorcycle's transmission primarily achieves power delivery and gear-shifting control through a clutch and a set of gears, with different models employing tailored technological solutions.

Manual transmission (common in motorcycles)
Using an international gear design, the变速轴 is driven by foot-operated pedals to move the shift forks and engage different gear sets. When the gear pedal is pressed, the shift arm swings and, via a定位销, pushes the gear set into motion, enabling automatic engagement and disengagement between gears. In the international gear system, neutral is positioned as a separate gear between 1st and 2nd, significantly reducing the risk of accidental misoperation.

Automatic transmission (for select models)
Dual-clutch transmission (DCT) uses two sets of clutches to independently control the odd- and even-numbered gear sets, enabling seamless power transfer during shifts; automatic manual transmission (AMT), on the other hand, relies on an electronically controlled system to simulate manual shifting actions, retaining the gear-set structure while simplifying operation.

Continuously Variable Transmission (for Scooters Only)
By replacing the traditional gear set with belt drive, the system uses the centrifugal force of polycentric beads to dynamically adjust the diameters of the driving and driven pulleys, enabling stepless speed variation.
